There is widespread concern about proposals for opencast coal mining off Huntingdon Lane. UK Coal have appealed in respect of the Borough of Telford & Wrekin’s failure to issue a decision on their application, so there will now be a Public Enquiry. Speaking to residents on the doorstep in Arleston I have picked up much uncertainty and opposition to the plans, which will affect an area of outstanding natural beauty. I will continue to lobby the Local Authority to ensure that residents are properly consulted and informed.

Open Cast Mining in the New Works and Arleston area is wrong, environmentally, socially and medically. The real investment in Mining Regeneration should be made in the real coalfields of the north east, east midlands and south wales. No to Opencast Mining in Telford but YES to a sustainable coal mining industry.
Its time to undo the damage done in the Eighties to the mining communities across Britain.
I have read your comments and it seems to me that you are sitting on the fence why don’t you come out in support of the residents. I agree the mining should not go a head, so come on Paul back the residents
Two previous open cast applications were thwarted by the previous Labour MP in The Wrekin who campaigned tirelessly against them. Unfortunately this one went through. I have been up to visit the protest camp, which is the last chance to save the site.
