Thanks to everyone who participated in the social media campaign promoting Wellington as a safe place to shop after the EDL demonstration disrupted our town. A call to have a super shopping Saturday went out on Twitter and a Facebook page was set up. Posters were printed and Sounds in The Square produced entertainment to make the day go with a swing. A happy, community spirited shopping day was enjoyed by all. Sometimes the risk of losing something makes you appreciate it all the more.

A big well done to you and everyone else who supported the Wellington traders – it was a good gesture. However, there is still a lot more to be done to properly regenerate Wellington as a vibrant and prosperous market town. I would urge everyone to ‘shop local’ and put pressure on the Telford and Wrekin Council to continue regeneration of the market towns rather than waste money on the so-called Telford town centre. Perhaps the new Council Commission can play a leading role in supporting regeneration?
